Literary Information:

The genre of 1984 is in Science Fiction because it is a made up story that is sometimes technology based. When it was released, this book was for the future and had things in it that had not been made yet. It also made people think a lot about the future and wonder if it would be like this. 1984 is written in third person limited the whole story. In the story, there is a narrator explaining what is going on and what takes place in the book. It is also limited because we don't know the thoughts or actions that other characters might take in the story. If it was omniscient, then we would know what the government was and why it was so suspicious. Third person limited helps the reader feel the same suspense that Smith is because we don't know what will happen to him. It think the combination of the genre and the third person limited make this story very suspenseful and interesting.

Literary Analysis:

I concluded that this story is mostly written with a neutral diction. There are a couple of formal parts in there, but for the most part it stays neutral. One interesting thing about this story is the language it is spoken in. It is still English, but modified. Orwell creates a new type of language which is called "newspeak" that later enters the dictionary. This adds a huge piece to the story because it makes you feel like you are in the future and this is a whole new world. It really adds to the story and helps the reader get into it. This piece makes it appear like it is formal diction, but once you understand it then it is neutral. I believe Orwell decided to use this new language because he wanted his story to be different and unique. I think he was successful in his effort and made 1984 use a whole new language.

Criticism:

I thought 1984 was a good book but I didn't love it. It was really interesting because it isn't like any other books, but I thought in times it got dragged out. It was boring for most of the book but had a couple of exciting parts in it. I am going to give it a 3 out of 5 only because it was unique. If I was rating the book on how good it was it would be lower. However, I do recommend it to other readers because it is different and is pretty interesting at times. It also is really famous and good to have read in your life. I wasn't blown away by it, but I still recommend it.
